O Dance Debuts

O Dance Debuts

We featured dancer and choreographer Jerry Opdenaker, a former Ballet Florida dancer and director of the company's STEP Ahead choreographic workshop, in our January 2009 issue. After 23 years, Ballet Florida shut its doors last summer, but it looks like Opdenaker has had big things in the works.

Opdenaker will present his new dance company, O Dance, on Feb. 6 at the Duncan Theatre. The company's inaugural performance will feature the work of up-and-coming choreographers and 15 professional dancers. According to the company's website, the mission of O Dance is to give emerging choreographers and dancers the opportunity to display and develop their talent.

Judging by Opdenaker's experience as a dancer, choreographer and choreography instructor, O Dance will likely present a well-rounded perspective. The Palm Beach County arts scene hasn't been the same since the loss of Ballet Florida, but we're intrigued by this new addition.

Click here to learn more about O Dance and purchase tickets to the inaugural performance (tickets are $27; $10 for students).
