Down the Drain?

Down the Drain?

I recently got to thinking about water and how much water we should drink for health purposes. Experts say you should drink half of your body weight in ounces each day. So, a 150 lb person should drink 75 ounces of water per day. Then, since I often do demonstration sampling at Publix, I’ve noticed how much bottled water people purchase. Wow! A great deal of money is spent on bottled water each day!

So, this week’s money saving tip is a very simple one. You may have to spend a little extra money up front, but you will save it back fairly quickly. Don’t buy bottled water! It’s that simple! But, I fully understand and agree that most tap water does not taste good. We purchased a water filtration pitcher to keep in our refrigerator. There are a few brands to consider. The two that come to my mind immediately are Brita and Pur. We purchased a Brita because they had a nice 2.5 gallon size so we don’t have to fill it up every time we get a glass of water. We change the filter about every three months, which we generally buy in bulk at either BJ’s Wholesale or Costco when coupons are available. Then we purchased several wide-mouthed bottles that would actually get clean by running them through the dishwasher. It’s simple, efficient and the water tastes great, in my opinion. And, it’s environmentally conscious.

Also, I know many of us store up water for the hurricane season. Often when a hurricane is anticipated, it’s very difficult to buy water. We decided to purchase some 5-gallon collapsible water jugs from a camping supply store (I believe Sports Authority may carry these as well). The jugs are easy to store since they collapse down almost flat. We never have to worry about whether we will be able to get water. It’s wise to purchase these long BEFORE hurricane season starts to ensure that you will have them when you need them.

So, on to the deals! From this point forward, I will be selecting just what I consider the “top deals” for the week. However, I will also be providing you links to websites that can help you see all the deals for various stores.

And, as always, I’d love your feedback. Please ask any questions you have or make any suggestions you’d like to make that can help improve this blog to benefit you more.
