Turn the Paige

The most recent chapter in Paige Kornblue’s television career is a familiar one—the Boca native is back in Palm Beach County as a reporter for WPTV.

Turn the Paige

Long before she seriously considered television as a profession, Boca Raton native Paige Kornblue served notice that she was a natural in front of the camera.

“When we were little, my three girl cousins and I used to put on shows around the holidays,” Kornblue says. “I’d cake on the makeup, we’d pull out the microphone, my brother [Brandon] had the Michael Jackson glove that we’d borrow, and we’d perform skits and songs.

“My dad has all this on video. He hasn’t shown it to a boyfriend yet—but I’m sure he will.”

It’s a testament to the forward momentum of Kornblue’s career that her parents—Andrea (a Junior League member for more than 30 years) and Edwin (one of Boca’s first full-time dentists; he opened his office in 1962 and retired in November 2006)—don’t have to pop in a video to see their daughter on the small screen.

Since returning in July 2007 to WPTV (she spent six months at the station in 2004–2005 filling in for reporters on leave), Kornblue has added weekend anchor to her workload at the local NBC affiliate. In her role as field reporter, the graduate of Saint Andrew’s School in Boca has covered some of the area’s most highly publicized stories of the past few years, including the murders at Town Center mall and the death of Chris Reyka, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was shot in the line of duty.

“Especially at my first [full-time] reporting job [in 2002, at a station in Lake Charles, La.], I was overwhelmed by the idea of not knowing everything about every subject I covered,” says Kornblue, who turns 29 in April. “But the viewers don’t know everything about a subject either. My job is to break it down for them and to keep it simple. ... Whether it’s someone who is running from the law or a traffic tie-up, I have to ask myself why we are sharing that story.

“People ask me what I love about this job. I love that, every day, I’m learning something new.”

Go Blue
Kornblue’s parents are such ardent supporters of the University of Michigan (Edwin, Paige and Brandon, who was a walk-on kicker for the football team, all attended) that they rent a place in Ann Arbor during football season.

“My father is such a hardcore Wolverine that he sits in on classes,” Paige says. “He [attended] a political science class and a history of college athletics course. I told him that he’s not allowed to join a fraternity.”
