Bad Boys

Jim Morrison

Claim to fame: Iconic lead singer of The Doors, sex symbol, drunkard, poet, shaman-this brilliant bad boy of the late '60s named his band after writer Aldous Huxley's cult classic, "The Doors of Perception." The band's first album, "The Doors," with the hit song "Light My Fire," went to No. 1 in 1967 and was followed by several more, including "The Soft Parade" (1969) and "LA Woman" (1971). The self-proclaimed Lizard King was found dead in a Paris hotel room in 1971 at age 27. In 1993, The Doors were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Florida Connection:
Morrison was born in Melbourne in 1943 and attended both St. Petersburg Junior College and Florida State University, where he studied art, psychology and film. Perhaps his most famous Florida connection was his arrest for exposing himself during a concert at Miami's Dinner Key Auditorium in 1969.

2 Live Crew

Claim to Fame:
One of the earliest rap groups, 2 Live Crew is probably best known for the controversy created in the late '80s by the album "As Nasty as They Wanna Be," which contained sexually graphic content viewed by some, including law enforcement, as obscene. In 1990, a federal judge ruled that the lyrics on the album were indeed obscene, and a record-store owner was later arrested for selling the album. Three members of the band were later arrested while performing one of their songs in a South Florida club.

Florida Connection
: Although originally from California, 2 Live Crew took root in Miami in 1985 and is regarded as one of the first groups to popularize Miami bass music. South Florida was the site of many of the band's showdowns with the law, including one with former Broward County Sheriff Nick Navarro. Recently, one of the band's members, Luther Campbell, teamed up with a West Palm Beach state representative to help register young voters.

Marilyn Manson

Claim to Fame:
A graphic shock rocker who proclaimed himself an "anti-Christ superstar," Manson rose to fame singing about sex, drugs and Satanism. His music has been targeted by religious groups who are appalled by its content and Manson's theatrics on stage; in 2001, he was arrested for performing an alleged lewd act on a security guard during a show.

Florida Connection:
It was after he left Ohio and came to Tampa in 1989 to work as a music journalist that Brian Warner changed his name to Marilyn Manson and formed Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids. By the early '90s, the band had moved to South Florida and was considered one of the area's most popular acts.
