Q: Where can you walk a dog on the beach?

There used to be a dog-friendly stretch of beach (called Dog Beach, oddly enough) just north of Gulf Stream Park adjacent to Briny Breezes but it became a little too popular and was closed to dogs a few years ago. There is a county ordinance in effect that prohibits dogs from being on any county beaches. The only place we know of is Jupiter Beach north of Marcinski Road and south of Carlin Park. All dogs must be leashed or under voice command. But better check with Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation department (pbcgov.com/parks/) to make sure no rules have changed. Your best bet is probably one of our many dog parks.

Welcome to another example of "one size -fits-all" overregulation by in your face government. In france and other civilized countries, dogs can go anywhere-even into restaurants, on public transportation. Common sense and reason usually serve to curb abuses of these privileges without resorting to excession regulation. In an entire county, there are surely some places that could allow pet owners, especially of water/outdoor oriented breeds, to exercise freely. Restricting these pets-and their owners is one form of animal abuse, and an affront to the rights of people to have and enjoy dos, especially large and outdoor breeds.
if need for regulation exists, it should be limited to those who negligently abuse their pet privileges and allow annoying behavior to other beachgoers. Not much different than expecting people with children to assume responsibility for their childrens' actions.
This is also a practical freedom, as for instance, someone, a pet owner, intends to move into the area as I am currently doing, will only buy in a pet friendly location with access to the beach.
for a large segment of the population, our pets are very much part of our family and unnecessary regulations is a limitation of our rights as well as the well being of our animal friends.
I'd be willing to bet that this county, while restricting dogs from the beach, allows dangerous dog breeds, like pit bulls and Dobermans, who really do present a menace to public health and safety.
