Delray Beach has never been a town to shy away from trying something different. So it came as no surprise last year when the Village by the Sea hosted the inaugural South Florida edition of an event too cool for words. It's also no surprise that the event "Chillounge Night" is back for a second go-round on Saturday, Feb. 5.
The premise is both simple and fresh, laid-back and chic. Take hundreds of posh daybeds and outdoor furnishings, and spread them out over a tract of land in a vibrant part of downtown. Add plenty of food, drink and entertainment -including a runway fashion show and live music. And you have a recipe for success.
"We create a beautiful atmosphere and provide an experience that combines music, fashion, dance and great food, all within an elegant setting that offers a perfect place to have fun, meet people -and chill," says event founder Rainer Scheer.
This year's event will be staged once again at The Great Lawn, the park area between Old School Square and Northeast Second Avenue. Area acts Alex Romano (with Music Fusion Band) and Terry Cooper Band highlight the musical lineup; and designer Shy Figaro will produce the late-night runway fashion show, as well as the stylish Daybed Parade.
Part of the proceeds will benefit Generation Hope, the local nonprofit started by the twin daughters of Nat King Cole to support music education at schools throughout South Florida.
Tickets are $25 at the door (must be 21 or older), but guests can purchase advance tickets for $20 by visiting www.chilloungenight.com. A limited number of VIP tickets, available for $100, include complimentary food and full liquor bar.
