After closing his popular Josef’s Table in Plantation, chef Josef Schibanetz has reopened in a new location, at the Polo Club Shoppes at the corner of Clint Moore Road and Military Trail.
The reborn Josef’s Table (5030 Champion Blvd., Boca Raton, 561/353-2700) flaunts the chef’s “Euro-Fusion” menu and an elegant, earth-toned dining room with hardwood floor, beamed ceiling, giant modern artworks and semi-exhibition kitchen.
Co-owner Mel Lechner, a long-time customer at the Plantation eatery and partner in West Palm Beach’s Pistache, was instrumental in getting Schibanetz to make the move to Boca and away from its former “boondocks” location.
Both the food and ambiance at Josef’s are more fine dining-oriented than the loud, casual, “scene” eateries that are all the rage nowadays. The menu offers such choices as whole Dover sole with lemon-parsley-caper butter, Riesling-braised veal with peas and spaetzle, and crepes filled with lobster, artichokes and spinach with vermouth beurre blanc. There’s even a cheese plate for dessert, about as common in these parts as snowstorms in July.
