The former chef at Wattana Thai Restaurant on South Dixie Highway has teamed up with his wife to open their own Thai eatery on the western outskirts of West Palm Beach.
Thai natives Ken and Patty Ekkhot opened Thai Room Restaurant (6901 Okeechobee Blvd., 561/689-1830) in the Lake Point Center at Jog Road, taking over a former Italian restaurant and creating a bright, colorful red and yellow space that features paintings of a Thai Po tree—a symbol of good luck—as well as comfy booths and long banquets set off by iridescent hand-sewn pillows.
The extensive menu lists all the expected Thai dishes, from chicken and beef satays and green papaya salad to an assortment of curries and stir-fries. It also shows off a few Chinese and Japanese influences in dishes like shumai dumplings, tempura shrimp, wonton soup and duck with black bean sauce.
Thai Room Restaurant is open for lunch and dinner daily. For more information, check out their website: http://www.thairoomwpb.com/.
