Two quintessentially American artforms will get to shine in Boca in the coming months.

First up is a local outpost of mammoth national barbecue chain Dickey’s, which any day now should open in the West Boca spot on Powerline Road that was formerly home to Angelo’s. Look for good ol’ Southern-style ‘cue with a tangy tomato-based sauce applied to all the usual barbecue suspects—ribs, pulled pork, brisket, sausages, chicken and turkey. There’s also the usual assortment of sides, plus a couple of salads and stuffed baked potatoes. The Boca location supposedly presages more local barbecue joints for the Texas-based chain, which has almost 300 eateries in 44 states.

Due to arrive late this year or early next is Jazziz Nightlife, a jazz club and restaurant that takes over the old ZED 451 location in Mizner Park. The brainchild of Jazziz magazine founder and publisher Dr. Michael Fagien, the 11,000-square-foot space is said to feature a restaurant, private dining area, cigar bar, champagne room and stage to feature musicians of national stature. A New Orleans-style jazz brunch is also in the works, as is an upstairs recording studio. For those of us who love jazz—rightly dubbed “America’s classical music”—this is some seriously good news. I can’t wait to belly up to the bar, order a small-batch bourbon and say, “Straight, No Chaser.”
