It’s official, Dennis Max’s new eatery, The Mexican, is now open. In Boca’s Royal Palm Place (133 SE Mizner Blvd., 561/300-5280), the 4,000-square-foot restaurant features a “farm to fork” take on traditional Mexican street food, as well as an eclectic décor that include a giant mural and half an old Volkswagen bus.
The liquid menu features more than two-dozen tequilas and a handful of mescals, along with a roster of tequila cocktails and even Mexican Coca-Cola. The food menu includes freshly made guacamole, munchies from crab and shrimp tostaditas to heritage pork belly arepas, a half-dozen different tacos (on house-made corn tortillas), plus enchiladas, burritos and fajitas. There’s also a short list of big plates, from salmon with molé verde to baby back ribs with chipotle-guava barbecue sauce.
Prices are pretty wallet-friendly, with appetizers from $8 to $14, taco trios from $11 to $14, and main courses from $18 to $26.
