Not one to be letting any arugula grow under his feet, noted local restaurateur Dennis Max has teamed up with Delray entrepreneur Wes Spicer to open The Sonoma House (220 NE 11th St., 561/756-9474), a private event and catering venue near Mizner Park.

The one-acre site, formerly the Ellenville Green Market, includes a rustic-elegant, stone-and-wood California-style villa. Along with gardens and a vine-bedecked gazebo, it can accommodate from 50 to 350 guests for everything from weddings and mitzvahs to dinner parties and business retreats.

All catering will be done by Max Group chefs following the “farm-to-fork” ethos that has made Max’s Harvest and Max’s Grille two of the most popular restaurants in Palm Beach County.

And we may as well max out (heh, heh) on the subject by bringing you another bit of Max news. On Friday, Sept. 27, Max’s Grille (404 Plaza Real, 561/368-0080) will host a patio party. An ice luge, DJ Big Bird Grizzle and drink specials (like $7 Reyka vodka cocktails and Azunia tequila margaritas) will get the party started at 8 p.m. Each cocktail purchase comes with a raffle ticket for the chance to win prizes. . . beyond just partying down on a Friday night, that is.
