For months, residents of Boca Raton patiently awaited the opening of Lord & Taylor in Mizner Park. Now that the ceremonial ribbon has been cut, people are flocking in to shop the 80,000-square-foot store. Here’s everything you need to know about what L&T offers and what it’s bringing to the community.

Lord & Taylor once called Town Center at Boca Raton its home. But in 2002, it bade farewell to our city and remained a stranger for 11 years.

During this more-than-a-decade-long period, executives at Hudson’s Bay Company, L&T’s parent company, received countless requests for the store’s return. A testament to the old adage, “Ask and you shall receive,” the much beloved store decided to open its arms to Boca again – this time at the corner of Mizner Park.

“We listened, we processed that information and we figured out how to come back,” says Richard Baker, governor of Hudson’s Bay, to the waiting crowd at the grand opening party Oct. 10.

The 80,000 square-foot, two-story store is certainly impressive. With light flowing in from large windows, approximately 35,000 light bulbs and three Italian chandeliers, the space is bright and welcoming. Three hundred mannequins pose for their customers, modeling collections from the likes of Michael Kors, Badgley Mischka and Free People.

Its spotless white tiled floor, well-thought out and organized displays and expansive space reminds me wildly of Parisian department stores – so much so that I felt a pang of nostalgia for the City of Lights as soon as I walked through the glass double-doors.

But the store opening is so much more than just another addition to Boca’s already thriving shopping scene. We compiled a digestible list of why L&T’s presence is noteworthy and why you should drop by for a visit if you haven’t yet.

1. It’s a sign of success for Boca’s downtown development project. During her speech before the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Boca Raton Mayor Susan Whelchel says L&T validated the importance of the hard work the city put into redefining the downtown area. We wouldn’t have this opportunity otherwise, she says.

2. It brought in 120 new jobs to Palm Beach County and will increase the county’s 92 percent occupancy rate for retail establishments.

3. L&T offers impressive services and amenities, including:

***Personal Style Advisors – this complimentary service helps you decide what clothing and accessories are best for you. Two in-house stylists, available by appointment, will go as far as pay a visit to your home to see what exactly your closet is lacking.

***Treatment Room – want to try out specific products from the store? L&T’s treatment room is essentially a mini-spa. Get a complimentary facial or massage while learning about the products that go into the process.

***Men’s Lounge – an alcove located on the second floor of the store where men can watch TV, read the paper or get a free bottle of water

4. A selection of clothing from fashion’s best labels, catered to Boca’s needs and climateMindy Horvitz, the store's general manager, spent six months doing research on what collections resonated with Boca, visiting country clubs and putting together an advisory board to answer the question, “What is the Boca consumer looking for?”

5. There’s something for everyone, Horvitz says. It’s affordable luxury.

6. Hudson’s Bay has a firm commitment to social responsibility. Ten percent of all purchases from the preview party and grand opening went toward the Junior League of Boca Raton and the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County. The store has already done events with the Boca Raton Historical Society and the Delray Beach Club, among others, and plans on being involved with several other organizations in the community.
