Lionfish Closes Abruptly in Delray Beach

Lionfish on the Ave was bustling Saturday evening, making it a rousing send off for the seafood restaurant.

After three years, the restaurant announced Saturday on its Instagram–which is no longer active—that it would be closing its doors that night.

“As some of you may have heard, Lionfish Delray Beach will close its doors permanently as of this evening, and we know we couldn’t have had the three great years we did without the support of our amazing Lionfish patrons,” management wrote on Instagram stories.

“A special thanks to our staff who worked incredibly hard to create the Lionfish experience diners have come to love. It’s been a pleasure to serve you in such a great city that is Delray Beach and thankful that you #gothooked.”

Days before the announcement, Executive Chef Emerson Frisbie posted on Instagram that he was looking for a new gig.

Our food editor, Christie Galeano-DeMott, has reached out to Lionfish’s publicist for comment.

The San Diego restaurant made its way to Delray Beach in September 2020 after a springtime delay due to the pandemic. It opened under the care of Executive Chef Johnny Demartini, but in November 2023, Frisbie took the helm.
