Boca Raton earned its share of accolades at the Florida Magazine Association’s annual Charlie Awards on Aug. 2 at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts in Lake Buena Vista.

For an unprecedented 11th consecutive year, Boca Raton was a finalist in its circulation bracket (20,000 to 50,000) in the “Best Overall” magazine category, claiming the Silver Award. Boca Raton had captured FMA’s highest honor—the Charlie—in that category four of the previous five years.

Boca Raton did earn Charlie Awards in two categories:

• Our magazine’s A&E section (called “Backstage Pass,” starting with our September/October issue) won “Best Department” for all consumer magazines. The judges were particularly impressed with A&E editor John Thomason’s insightful spin on this department, as well as our art team’s design.

• Boca Raton’s website ( took home top honors in one of the evening’s most high-profile categories, “Best Overall Online Presence”—topping publications in every division and in every circulation bracket for the award.

In addition:

• Boca Raton won the Silver Award for Kevin Kaminski’s “Editor’s Letter,” a category that included all consumer magazines in the state.

• And Boca Raton’s video team, led by Jen Stone, was honored with a Bronze Award in the “Best Online Video” category for our South Beach Food & Wine coverage.
