Boca Raton Little Leaguers will join Boca Raton Mayor Susan Welchel and Florida Atlantic University baseball team players to participate in the Save the Children’s World Marathon Challenge Oct. 18.

The event aims to raise awareness and money for the international relief and development organization.

The World Marathon Challenge is a global relay. Teams of children from around the world collectively complete the 26.2 mile marathon distance. They’ll also attempt to break the world marathon record of two hours, three minutes and 38 seconds.

Events will be held worldwide throughout October. Fifty thousand children in more than 60 countries will take on the challenge.

Anyone who wants to support the Boca Raton Little Leaguers later this week, should go to Don Estridge Middle School (1798 NW Spanish River Blvd., Boca Raton) at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18.

The money raised from the evening event will go to Save the Children's programs here in the U.S. and around the world.
