To go along with his recent nomination for “Best Chef South” honors by the James Beard Foundation, Palm Beach chef-restaurateur Clay Conley has two new family additions.
One is a new daughter, the other is a little sister. The latter would be Imoto (350 S. County Rd., 561/833-5522), Japanese for “little sister,” Conley’s interpretation of a modern Japanese café-slash-sushi bar that takes over the space adjacent to his still white-hot eatery, Buccan.
The 40-seat Imoto sports a small sushi bar and clean, Zen-like aesthetic with accents of glass and Japanese river rock. Think of it as “Buccan’s cooler little sister,” says Conley’s wife Averill.
The menu, executed by Conley and a pair of Japanese sushi chefs, was inspired by the Conleys’ time in Japan, where Clay was opening a restaurant in celeb chef Todd English’s far-flung empire. Though not large, the menu touches multiple culinary bases, with a roster of nigiri and maki sushi and sashimi, appetizers that range from rock shrimp tempura to tuna and foie gras sliders, and entrees that include grilled Wagyu beef short ribs and swordfish “Oscar” (with soy-peanut glaze, hollandaise and king crab).
Mom and Dad must be so proud.
