Bloomingdale’s Boca Raton at Town Center was buzzing with shoppers last Thursday for two exclusive trunk shows.

Handbag designer Debbie Brooks and representatives from the elegant Lagos jewelry brand were on site to meet with shoppers and guests. Ten percent of tracked sales from both events were donated to Autism Speaks, a national autism advocacy organization.

Both brands are passionate about the charity.



Brooks incorporated the organization’s blue puzzle piece logo into a few of her beautiful handbags, saying it added a “little touch of whimsy.”

“We really blinged it out,” Brooks said. “Fashion really makes a statement and when you wear something that opens up a dialogue you are able to talk about your charity and causes.”

The special clutch appears as if a pair of hands are already holding the bag. Glittering stones, resembling rings, twinkle on the outside.

Brooks had her other stunning handbags, clutches, wristlets and wallets on display, including her popular frog pieces, electric pink bags, and interchangeable purse plates. Her painted purses are often sprinkled with fresh water pearls, Swarovski crystals or diamond dust, but still remain at a “comfortable” price point.

Also giving back was Lagos, the stunning jewelry brand known for its two-tone pieces.  Russell Pagliughi, the director of national sales accounts, knew he wanted to work with a charity that specifically helped children, before becoming involved with Autism Speaks.

“I brought [the charity] to Bloomingdale’s via Lagos,” he said. “It is an amazing organization.”

Pagliughi said their traveling trunk show showcased pieces not normally found in Bloomingdale’s jewelry department.

“We brought special, more unusual pieces,” he said. “More diamonds, more gold.”

Lagos’ new spring 2012 collection was also on display, including “Love Me, Love Me Not,” a bold black, white and turquoise line of necklaces, bracelets and rings.



“It is a really cool line,” Pagliughi said. “I love that it’s colorful. It’s great for right now...I think it definitely brings a youthful look to the line.”

Lagos will celebrate its 35th anniversary this August and is available in Bloomingdale’s.
