An exciting workout trend is the outdoor boot-camp-like training experience. Camp Gladiator, a national fitness movement with a boot camp ethic, has come to Delray Beach. Boca Raton resident Abbey Hilton is the Camp Gladiator head trainer in Delray Beach on the field at Old School Square. (Editor’s note: In the interest of full disclosure, Abbey is the daughter of Boca Raton magazine health writer Lisette Hilton.)

We asked Hilton about the local Camp Gladiator experience. Here’s what she had to say.

What is Camp Gladiator?

An outdoor workout designed to improve one's endurance, strength, speed and balance.

What can people who join the movement expect?

Besides an incredible workout, one can expect to be motivated, inspired and transformed. We focus on bringing the community together so everyone can feel like part of a tight-knit family. At Camp Gladiator Delray, we keep the positivity flowing and let everyone know they can rest as needed. We want to stress the fact that they are getting to know their own bodies. Over time they will improve and people will learn to push themselves accordingly. People work at their own pace, and most circuits go for time rather than reps; so, we start as a team, and finish as a team.

How many times a week do you have classes and when?

Five days per week. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Who is the perfect candidate for the camp experience?

Anyone and everyone! Like I said, we work with all fitness levels and circuits are completed in time intervals. That said, you are given the ability to get as much done as you can in the allotted timeframe.

Do you get aerobic and weight training?

There is a perfect mix of cardio and resistance training in a boot camp. Between weight circuits, we implement either a lap or speed drills to keep that heart rate up the whole time!

How much is it to join and what do people get for the money?

Right now, we have a deal going on that will give you unlimited classes for the rest of January, for $50. After that, consecutive campers will be able to get six camps for $69, which is not only a commitment, but a promise to yourself that you are ready to change your life for the better.

What do people need to bring to classes?

Two dumbbells (weight of your choice) and a matt.
