Putting “Boca Raton” and “hootenanny” in the same sentence may seem like one of those oxy-type morons, but that’s the deal with the coming Whisky Bent Hootenanny, a sort of posh country fair set for Friday, Nov. 15, on the lush, spacious grounds of Sonoma House in Boca Raton.

Operated by Dennis Max’s Max Group, Sonoma House will see a countrified bash featuring barbecue, whiskey cocktails and craft beers, “barnyard-style games,” and music from the eclectic Uproot Hootenanny band. The event will run from 7 to 11 p.m. and benefits the Tri-County Humane Society. Advance tickets cost $65 for individuals and $55 each for couples. Price is $75 at the door. If there’s anything sexier than oysters and champagne ... well, I can’t write about in a family blog. Luckily, I can write about oysters and champagne, like the Thursday night deal at Clay Conley’s exquisite Palm Beach restaurant, Buccan (350 S. County Rd., 561/833-3450).

Select oysters come in several guises—on the half-shell with accompaniments like black pepper mignonette, classic cocktail sauce and citrus granite—also in cooked a la Rockefeller, priced at $3.50 to $4.50 each. Wash them down with a glass (or several) of Laurent-Perrier champagne bearing a most reasonable $10 price tag, and make your own sexy blog post.

Feed your belly as well as your head with the new seasonal offerings at Boca’s swanky Jazziz Nightlife (201 Plaza Real, 561/300-0730). Top toque Jason Flit, who’s cooked with such culinary superstars as Daniel Boulud and Michael Mina, is dishing up such creations as diver scallops with roasted grapes, charred romanesco cauliflower and Vadouvan curry and seared foie gras with sweet potato custard topped with granny smith apple cubes and pumpkin seed brittle.

There’s an ambitious cocktail menu too, with choices like the Island Fashioned (Plantation Reserve rum with velvet falernum and Bittermens Tiki Bitters) and the Bird in the Palm (Milagro Silver tequila with home-made grapefruit soda, fresh lime and grapefruit juices, and Aperol. Just remember to order your drink Straight, No Chaser.
