Sadly, it is not rare to see restaurants go belly up on Las Olas Boulevard, despite its unique location and name recognition. But perhaps the duo behind two successful local restaurants—Pinon Grill and Brimstone Woodfire Grill—will have better luck replacing the now-defunct Rare Steakhouse with The Grille on Las Olas.
Kevin Blair and Jeffrey Anderson plan a summer debut for The Grille, whose space is now getting some pretty thorough renovation, giving it a contemporary feel with room for both indoor and outdoor dining, as well as private dining areas.
No word on what the menu will hold, though from the name you can probably guess the restaurant’s orientation. I’ll check back with more details as they become available.
More Broward news comes from Oceans 234 (234 N. Ocean Blvd., 954/ 428-2539). The Deerfield Beach seafoodie has appointed Victor Franco as its new executive chef and reworked both its savory and sweet menus. Franco has some impressive notches on his resume, having worked with the likes of Norman Van Aken, Mark Militello and Allen Susser.
Among Franco’s menu additions are five-hour-braised beef short ribs with creamy polenta, baby carrots and asparagus; grilled swordfish with macadamia rice and red pepper-pineapple salsa; and a half-dozen new desserts, from Bailey’s Irish Crème cheesecake to lemon-ginger crème brulee.
