Step-Above Rummage Sale

The Step-Above Rummage Sale is not the average rummage sale where stuff is piled high on tables and in boxes. This Step-Above Rummage Sale is like shopping in a department store. Each department has its own area with merchandise conveniently displayed. There are clothes and accessories for women, men and children. Shoes are arranged by size and can be tried on in a comfortable sitting area. The jewelry department has unique pieces at bargain prices. Bedding, towels and table cloths are in the linen department. Kitchen supplies including glassware, flatware, sets of dishes, small electrical appliances, personal items and nicknacks are in the housewares department. There are areas for books, toys, sports equipment, bicycles, luggage and tools. Follow the signs to the furniture and art area.

Clothes are sized, priced and hung on racks. Some items have new tags still attached. Sales specialists can help you make a selection or point out the boutique area. A dressing area is available to be sure your purchases are perfect.

Arrive early for the best bargains. The prices are fabulous and the merchandise is extensive.

Florida Renaissance Festival's 24th season "Renaissance around the World"

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Calling all knaves, knights, wenches and ladies! The honor of your noble company is requested at the Florida Renaissance Festival, now celebrating its 24th year of fantastical journeys back in time, where hundreds of talented performers from around the globe take to the stage, and participants donned in their finest regalia fill the bustling streets with laughter and awe. The cost is $9 for children ages 6-11 is $9, and adults cost $21. Children 5 and under are free. Special seasonal passes are available for $75, and there are group ticket rates. Gallery Talk: Jillian Bruschera of The Mobile Mill

Jillian Bruschera of The Mobile Mill will discuss her traveling papermaking studio project. The Mobile Mill is a traveling paper studio built to enable “pop-up” hand papermaking production. As a transportable space able to interact between edges, this studio-on-wheels considers art-making––in this case, the making of handmade recycled paper––a way to engage in a variety of communities and dialogues. Moving the making experience to any person in any place, The Mobile Mill actively challenges traditional notions of art practice, craft culture and education by broadening preconceived notions of where art can be made and who can make it. With an emphasis on social-based process, this art-work blurs the line between art and experience, making the radical effort to push beyond studio walls. In this way, The Mobile Mill is not just about making things but also about making things happen.

Special Screening "Inside the Perfect Circle: The Odyssey of Joel Thome"

A music documentary about world-traveled composer and conductor Joel Thome, 'Inside The Perfect Circle' provides a close personal look at Thome's career and philosophy. He collaborated extensively with Frank Zappa, arranging the eccentric rock icons elaborate music for symphony orchestra and rock band. He was awarded a Grammy for his work with Zappa and guitarist Steve Vai, and was also nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. He composed the music to Pablo Picasso's only play, and completed many other projects furthering modern music. After suffering a debilitating stroke in 1998, Joel lost the use of his left arm and was forced to undergo years of recovery. Using music as a resource for healing, he was able to resume composing and returned to the stage to perform his graphically notated mandala scores. The performance was featured at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City in September 2009.
