11 South Florida Breweries Come Together for Bahamas Relief

It’s been well over a month now since Hurricane Dorian devastated our Bahamian neighbors, and South Floridians have continued to band together to do all that we can to support relief efforts.

South Floridian restaurants are opening their doors wide to welcome in displaced Bahamians and provide them with food that reminds them of home. Other businesses and individuals have donated their time, services, and money to support relief efforts. There are countless cases of local (and national) businesses doing their part to contribute to relief efforts, and now we have yet another inspiring example.

To do their part to support relief efforts, a number of local breweries are coming together to bring us a way to help the Bahamas and get buzzed at the same time.

11 of South Florida’s finest breweries have joined forces to create a new beer in order to support relief efforts in the Bahamas. The beer is called “Onward Together,” which is pulled from the motto on the Bahamian crest: “Forward Upward Onward Together.”

The brewers chose to name the beer “Onward Together” not just because of the crest, but because they wanted to show solidarity with the survivors in helping them to move forward.

“It was heartbreaking to see the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas,” says Rhett Dougherty, Head Brewer at Veza Sur. “We’ve been collecting donations at the brewery, but knew there was more we could do to help, so that’s where this collaboration came in. It’s humbling to have all these awesome breweries come together for something that’s going to help those affected by the storm.”

The beer, which is a Bahamian-inspired Pilsner brewed with tropical fruits including mango, sour orange, pineapple and coconut, is an ode to the island flavors that the Bahamas are known for.

The involved breweries are based between West Palm Beach and the Florida Keys, and they include some of South Florida’s best known beer labels:

100% of the proceeds from sales of the beer will be donated to relief efforts in the Bahamas. Onward Together will be available on tap at each of the participating 11 breweries beginning on Saturday, October 26th.
