2020 Halloween Events That AREN’T Canceled

“Canceled” might not be THE definitive word of 2020, but it’s certainly in the running. Event cancelations have continued to be felt, and sorely missed, into the fall, including our favorite Halloween gatherings: the Moonfest concert in West Palm Beach, and Palm Beach County’s three stellar haunted attractions: Enigma Haunt in Boca, and Fright Nights and X-Scream Haunted House in West Palm Beach.

But there are still frightful events commencing in the weeks leading up to Oct. 31, which cater to the intrepid socially distanced reveler. Here are a few of them around Boca Raton and points north.

Wicked Delray Ghost Tours

Marilyn Egan, an expert on Delray’s haunted history, shares spooky stories from the city’s rich past. Dressed in witch’s garb with a lantern in hand, Egan reveals the creepy legends behind the Blue Anchor Pub, the Colony Hotel and more.

When: 8 p.m. nightly

Where: Veterans Park, 802 N.E. First St., Delray Beach

Cost: $20 per person

Séance With Remy Connor

In this throwback to the days of Arthur Conan Doyle and early spiritualism, West Palm Beach mentalist and magician will summon spirits—not the kind you’re likely to be imbibing at Death or Glory—and, hopefully, converse with the “Other Side.” Groups are limited to four people per session.

When: 15 minute sessions, 3 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays and Sundays

Where: Death or Glory Bar

Cost: $20 per person

Spookyville Drive-Thru Fair and Eats

The Fairgrounds are getting in on the drive-thru action this year with a family-friendly experience complete with roving actors, Halloween vignettes and free candy. Indulgent sweet and savory foods, from Halloween-themed mac and cheese to candy apples, are available for an extra cost.

When: 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays and Sundays, 6 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 23-31

Where: South Florida Fairgrounds, 9067 Southern Blvd., West Palm Beach

Cost: $25 per vehicle

Date Nite—Bite Me Halloween

Bring a date, or come solo and in costume, and paint an original work of spooky art while knocking back a glass of wine or two.

When: 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 28

Where: Painting With a Twist, 1185 S. Federal Highway, Deerfield Beach

Cost: $37 per person

Boo at the Zoo 2020

When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 30-31

Where: Palm Beach Zoo, 1301 Summit Blvd., West Palm Beach

Cost: $18.95-$24.95 zoo admission

There will be no trick-or-treating at this annual zoo shindig, owing to CDC recommendations, but it promises another year of (distanced) fun, including a DJ, costume contests and all the amenities normally associated with a visit to the zoo.

Halloween Night Festivities

Pineapple Grove’s hip wine bar hosts a costume judging contest, with prizes of up to $100 in Wine | House | Social gift cards. Participants should take a selfie of themselves in costume, in advance, and tag @winehousesocial to be entered into the competition. All night long, the bar will offer three signature drinks: the “Black Magic” sangria, “Scary Spice” beer cocktail and “Bloody Bubbles.”

When: 5 p.m. to midnight Oct. 31

Where: Wine | House | Social, 104 N.E. Second Ave., Delray Beach

Cost: No cost to attend
