Though fall is barely upon us, I can already tell you what fashion trends to look for this spring. That’s right. Forget Halloween and the holidays for a moment and fast forward to April. I just returned from the spring fashion markets in New York, and I have one word to say about spring. Color.
Spring 2012 is all about color. Vibrant, electric, luscious color. Hot pink, bright green, crayon yellow and tangelo orange painted the spring collections. But of course, 7th Avenue being 7th Avenue, it’s never “pink.” It’s fushia, or raspberry, or bubblegum. Green is verde, apple, grass and lime. And don’t even get me started on orange. Which, by the way, is the IT color for spring. There’s persimmon, tangerine, mango, sunset. Think of any “thing” that comes in orange and it is probably on a style sheet in New York. Yellow, or should I say, lemon, is a close second to orange.
You will see these colors everywhere, from sleek chiffon gowns, to cashmere cardigans, to python clutches. And the color blocking trend (aka “mondrian”) so in vogue this past season continues into spring, bringing a 60’s feel to many of the collections.
So start thinking color and I’ll let you know more of what I saw during New York Fashion Week in my next post!
