More than 30 chefs from across the U.S. will be at Pine Trails Park in Parkland on Sept. 30 to participate in the Actions for Change Food and Music Festival.
Doug and Jennifer Zeif, parents of Marjory Stoneman Douglas students, launched the Actions for Change organization after the Feb. 14 shooting, where 17 of their sons’ friends and teachers were gunned down.
The festival, from 5 to 10 p.m., features dishes from these famous chefs—quite a few from South Florida, too—and promises to have nationally known music acts and a beer garden. Tickets can be purchased in advance ($150 for adults, $45 for kids 18 and under), and alcohol will be sold in limited quantities with drink tickets sold in advance here.
While the money raised will go to “organizations committed to helping all of our nation’s youth,” there will also be an effort to raise national awareness about gun violence, and to register people to vote. The three groups organizing this event are Actions For Change, Change the Ref (founded in memory of Joaquin Oliver, one of the Parkland victims, by his parents Manual and Patricia Oliver) and Shine MSD, which raises “relief funds for victims and families and provides mental health programs centered around the arts at Stoneman Douglas High School and Parkland.”
