For years the dining buzz in Delray has been about Atlantic Avenue. Now it’s West Delray’s turn. Though several eateries, especially Henry’s, have thrived in the town’s nether reaches, the recent debut of Delray Marketplace seemed to have opened the restaurant spigot.
Yet one more sign of local restaurateurs recognizing the area’s sophisticated, and underserved, dining clientele is the debut later this year of D’Angelo Pizza + Wine + Tapas, the third local Italian small plates eatery from accomplished chef-restaurateur Angelo Elia, who also has Casa D’Angelo in Boca and the superlative D’Angelo Trattoria in downtown Delray.
Joining siblings in Fort Lauderdale and Weston, the West Delray D’Angelo will take a spot in the Shoppes at Addison Place, and feature the same sleek but comfortable décor as its predecessors. So look for lots of dark wood, white-stone countertops, wood-fired pizza oven and wall of flat-screen TVs showing Italian cooking shows. (Maybe diners will pick up a few tips.)
On the food side of things, expect a variety of Tuscan-esque dishes at moderate prices, like short rib and scallop with broccoli rabe risotto, poached egg crostini with fava and prosciutto salad, veal and pecorino meatballs, and an array of pizzas, calzones, bruschettas and frittatas. House-made gelato and sorbet too, plus an extensive selection of Italian wines.
