Arts Garage Gets the Blues

The Arts Garage promises to sizzle this summer with its brand new “Garage Blues” line up that will complement the newly launched “Jazz Project.” Both series feature international talent with strong Florida connections—and promise to rock some of those Saturday nights!

Some upcoming acts:

Doug Carn: A pianist, organist, composer and educator crafted classic albums such asInfant EyesandAdam’s Apple, on which he also wrote distinctive arrangements of songs by Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane and Bobby Hutcherson.

Dr. Lonnie Smith:A familiar fixture on the South Florida jazz scene of the ’80s and ’90s and a breakout star in the 1960s, with a distinctive organ reminiscent of the George Benson and Lou Donaldson sound

Oriente: AMiami’s Latin-roots-fusion band that has performed with hot shots like Mongo Santamaria, Jaco Pastorius, Celia Cruz and Cachao.

Lynne Arriale:A dynamic pianistwho teaches at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, and has toured and recorded with musicians like trumpeter Randy Brecker, saxophonist Bill McHenry and bassist George Mraz.

Duffy Jackson: A longtime South Florida drummer who is also known as a wildly entertaining showman.

Jonathan Kreisberg;A guitaristwho grew up in Miami, and has toured with jazz greats such as Joe Henderson, Michael Brecker and Red Rodney, as well as his own progressive-rock band Third Wish.

Little Jake Mitchell:  A teen prodigy who later toured with James Brown, Jackie Wilson and Sam Cooke, and won over audiences at the Apollo Theater.

Matt “Guitar” Murphy:  Considered an accomplished blues guitarist, with a spot in the Blues Hall of Fame.

Barrelhouse Chuck Goering:A pianist whohas played with some of the best including Chicago blues-piano heroes Blind John Davis, Big Moose Walker, Detroit Junior and Little Brother Montgomery.  For his Arts Garage show, Barrelhouse Chuck will be joined by South Florida favoritesFamous Frank and the Nucklebusters.
