Back-to-School Supply Drives Coming Up For Families in Need

If your email inbox’s shopping promotions have looked anything like mine lately, then:

  1. You truly know you’re a parent
  2. You’ve realized that back-to-school is around the corner

I’ve already shopped for school uniforms and shoes, but still need to make the annual trip to Office Depot to get all of my elementary school daughter’s school supplies. We take these rituals for granted each year. But, I also know not every family in our area is able to swing these big purchases, especially if they have more than one child.

That’s why I love hearing about local school supply drives—It gives families like mine a chance to contribute and creates a teachable moment for my daughter about how she can support others in need.

Here are a few great ones coming up:

HeARTfelt – Arts Garage’s Art Supply Drive benefiting Village Academy

HeARTfelt is a new Arts Garage Delray Beach initiative benefitting local schools and their arts education programs. Through August, Arts Garage is asking patrons and residents to donate materials such as colored pencils, paints, construction paper, and other arts and crafts supplies. They plan to donate to four schools annually, choosing a new one each quarter to receive the donations.

The collected supplies for the inaugural drive will be donated to Village Academy on the Art and Sara Jo Kobacker Campus, their first partner school, on Aug. 5. Collection boxes will be placed in the Grassroots Gallery at Arts Garage, 94 NE Second Ave. which is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.

Tools for Schools – Broward County’s largest back to school drive

Tools for Schools’ back to school drive, organized by the Broward Education Foundation, is a community effort between the foundation and public and local businesses, including BrightStar Credit Union the drop-off location(s) for the drive through Aug. 16.

Tools for Schools is asking for necessary school supplies for Broward County students such as: composition books, dry erase markers, rulers, 4-ounce glue bottles, washable markers, notebook paper, index cards, pink rectangular erasers, and backpacks.

For more information on how you can donate school supplies, call 954/486-2728 and for BrightStar branch location hours, visit bscu.org/locations.
