As I sit here with Omicron affecting families all around Florida (even in my own home), I’ve never been more grateful for a digital connection with my fellow moms. This website lends itself to that connection. So does my own blog, ModernBocaMom.com. However, the most helpful and heartwarming platform over the past few weeks (months, years) has been Instagram. In the crazy year that was 2021, it kept us connected. It kept us entertained. Who knew I would go from loathing Instagram Reels to creating them full force in the second half of the year?
I miss the original intent of the platform, though: PHOTOS! I think moms who take the time to post interesting and beautiful photos (and stories) on Instagram are marvelous. In fact, when I moved back to Boca, the first hashtag I ever searched to start filling up my own Instagram feed was #bocamom.
Instagram has evolved and grown so much since I started featuring my favorite local “grammers” in this column over six years ago. So, deciding on my annual picks for Boca moms to follow was a challenge! Check out who made the cut for 2022…
The New Chapter Mom
Rachael, aka @gutsandgloss, has been through the worst kind of heartbreak and disappointment. Losing her husband and the father of her two children to pancreatic cancer when she was just shy of 40 made her a widow and single mom. But, instead of giving into (the expected) loneliness and depression, she was lucky enough to meet someone new, albeit a little sooner than she anticipated. Much reflection and a successful Instagram account later, Rachael is remarried and now helping other moms (widowed, divorced or facing any big challenge) realize that they deserve a new chapter in their lives–on their own terms and no one else’s!
Rachael’s grid is impeccably organized featuring content that touches on grief, daily reminders and tips on life after loss. She’s also a huge proponent of self-care with the ongoing mantra: You need to take care of YOU first.
Bonus feature of @gutsandgloss account includes: The gloss! According to Rachael, “No matter how serious your challenge may be, exercise, sleeping well, eating healthy, and treating yourself are just as important as any other ‘job’ you have!”
That’s advice this mom needs to take more seriously in 2022…
The Mom Life Mom
Marisa of @motherlovercollective is on a mission to make other parents feel less alone by sharing the (often hilarious and relatable) trials and tribulations of being a boy mom while working full time, renovating her Boca Raton home and surviving day to day on “coffee, wine and good humor.”
Marisa’s account covers mom life, funny moments and aims to create a community around the one thing we have in common: demanding children (that we love endlessly, of course!).
Bonus feature of the @motherlovercollective account includes: Links to cute outfits and affordable housewares as well as local party inspiration.
The Fashionable Yet Casual Mom
Teacher turned stay-at-home mom, Bea of @fashionablycasualmom will find the perfect look for you! And the best part? It’s always affordable. This Boca Raton mama is raising two boys and creating Instagram Reels at a pace that even I can’t keep up with! Her mantra? Be the best version of YOU that you can be (and look good doing it)!
Bea’s feed pretty much features outfits for any occasion and if you need something specific, DM her! She also shows her followers how to style existing looks or wear a piece several different ways to make a purchase worth it.
Bonus feature of the @fashionablycasual account includes: Local mom life. As a hyperlocal blogger myself, I’m always thrilled to see when a fellow ‘grammer is taking advantage of outdoor mommy and me classes, local shops, restaurants and more in Boca Raton!
