Life just got a little sweeter in downtown West Palm Beach with the debut ofCafé Sweets Bakery (505 Clematis St., 561/319-1478), a full-service bakery with a Southern bent.
Proprietor Sharlyn Davis, a pastry arts grad of The Art Institute of New York City, took her culinary inspiration from her grandmother, Emma Lewis, a native of South Carolina renowned for her Southern desserts.
Those regional specialties are well represented on the café’s menu, which includes red velvet cake, peach cobbler and sweet potato pie to go along with such perennial favorites as chocolate chip cookies, chocolate-covered strawberries, sour cream pound cake and German chocolate cake. I have to admit, though, that the “Better Than Sex” cake sounds pretty interesting too. . .
