Celebrate a Jam-Packed Weekend

Where to start, where to start. There is so much going on this weekend you’d have to be two people to do it all. Tonight is the kick-off of the “Meet Me On The Promenade” weekend in downtown Boca with a community line dance (starts at 6 p.m. dress rehearsal at 5:30 p.m.) and other festivities around Sanborn Square, followed by after-parties at downtown bars and restaurants. It’s also the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum’s “Soulful Tastings: An Evening of Southern Foods and South African Wines,” to be held at 6:30 p.m. at Patio Delray with Chef Scott Thomas dishing up boneless beef ribs in Carolina BBQ sauce with hushpuppies, salt and pepper fried catfish nuggets, baked and fried macaroni & cheese, chicken ‘n biscuits bites and sweet potato donut holes. (Call 561-279-8883 or email spadymuseum@spadymuseum.orgfor more information.)

Tomorrow is even more jam-packed, with area green markets cranking up, and in the morning starting at 9:15 at the Delray Library the “Food! Cuisine, Culture & Community” symposium. Peter Leonard and I will be moderators and we’ll be introducing Chef Wes Bonner, Resident Chef, Publix Apron’s Cooking School, Bill Citara our own fearless food editor, writer, and restaurant critic, farmer Jason McCobb of Farmer Jay Pure Organics, horticulturist and owner of Farming Systems Research, Inc. Nancy Roe, nutritionist R. Mark Stowe and Laura Sanagorski, arborist, environmental horticulture extension agent, Palm Beach County Cooperative Extension. Afterward, our guest chefs will be serving up yummies. (Call 561/266-9490 for more information.)

Day Two of “Meet Me On the Promenade” continues, with everything from foot races to a “Sip & Stroll” around downtown, activities for the kids and much, much more.

And it’s all capped off tomorrow night by the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner dance! (Call 561/395-4433 for more information)

So if anyone has the nerve to whine that there’s nothing to do, we think you need to take another look. Have a great weekend!
