Check Out New Stores

When is the last time you took the time to check out the new stores in your area? For me, it’s been a while. Lack of time seems to have me shopping at my normal stores because I know where everything is, etc.  However, this economy seems to be providing opportunities for new stores that offer lower pricing. The re-emergence of dollar stores, and other low-cost stores can really help our bank accounts!

I recently visited a new store in my area. Aldi Food Market moved into my area a while ago but I had been hesitant to take the time because of my preconceived notions! Have you ever done that? Little did I know what I was missing!  Aldi’s is a small store with no frills. You won’t see any fancy signs up around the store, no deli, no seafood counter, no bakery, etc. So, what’s so great about it, you ask? The PRICES!

Now, understand that I am a Publix shopper. I love Publix BOGO (buy one, get one free) sales. And, as a result of these sales, I rarely pay full price for anything I need. And, it’s very hard for other stores to compete with the BOGO price. Walmart & Target can’t compare on prices, and compare even less on service! That is why I thought Aldi’s couldn’t offer better deals. In many cases, I was wrong! A few examples:  Milk is about $1 less per gallon than the regular grocery stores, and even $0.50 less per gallon than the club stores. Salty-type snacks are lower than the BOGO prices at Publix. Lunchmeat is cheaper than the sale prices or club store prices.  And those are just a few examples. You still need to watch your prices and consider what they are in other places, but many items are definitely a better deal. However, keep in mind that almost all of their products are store-brand. You won’t see too many name-brand products. So, I am still buying small quantities and trying them before I stock up. However, so far everything has been very good. And, I really don’t NEED to stock up since these low prices are their everyday prices.

Another unique thing about Aldi’s is that you have to pay a quarter to get a shopping cart. But don’t worry – you get your quarter back when you return the cart. You also have to bring your own bags.

The only thing about shopping Aldi’s that I don’t like is that you cannot do all your shopping in one trip. There are going to be items you need that they just don’t have. But if you can find the time to stop in, I think you’ll find it is well worth it!

Aldi Food Market is just one example of how you can benefit by checking out new stores. When is the last time you checked out the dollar store? Some of those have great prices on food as well. Just be sure to check the expiration dates before purchasing.

Coupon Books now available: ENJOY THE CITY COUPON BOOKS are back! Check to see if there is a school or club in your area selling these. I believe they sell for $20 and have fantastic coupons in them. I haven’t seen this year’s book yet, but in years past they have always been well worth the $20!

All You Magazine October 2011 Coupon List – Bargain Briana has been kind enough to provide a list of coupons that will be in Walmart’s All You Magazine for October.  You can check it out here to see if you want to stop by and pick up a copy. I believe it retails for $2.49 per issue if you buy it at Walmart, but you can get a subscription for $1.66 per issue here.  However, I will tell you that sometimes the subscription version has less coupons than the newsstand version.
