Chef Chronicles: Noodles, Steak & L’Europe

Keeping up with chefs’ comings and goings can be like following the money card in a game of three-card monte. But we can always try.

Roy Villacrusis, for my money one of the finest young chefs anywhere in South Florida, has shut down his cutting-edge but underappreciated Kubo in North Palm Beach and will become chef-partner at the soon-to-debut Kapow Noodle Bar in Mizner Park.

James King, who brought a stellar farm-to-table ethos to Verdea in, of all places, the Palm Beach Gardens Embassy Suites, is moving on to become chef at The Edge, Steak & Bar at the Four Seasons Miami, which replaces Acqua and is slated to open sometime next month.

And there’s a new chef at Palm Beach favorite Café L’Europe. He’s Fernando Martinez, formerly exec sous chef at one of Mango Gangster Douglas Rodriguez’s South Beach eateries. Though keeping the café’s classic dishes on the menu, he’s also added some Latin-inspired bar bites and more adventurous daily specials.
