China Beach Bistro Makes Northwood Debut

Hoping to elevate the generally mediocre quality of Chinese cuisine in our little corner of paradise is China Beach Bistro (409 Northwood Rd., West Palm Beach, 561/833-4242), a classy new eatery from the owners of Cafe Centro and Palm Beachers, Roger and Judi Hochstin.

Along with the promise of Chinese cuisine that might actually be recognized by the Chinese is a focus on the popular tapas-type snacks, dim sum (“touch the heart”). A trio of New York chefs have been brought aboard to fulfill that promise, including dim sum specialist Kwok Chiu Tang.

Among Tang’s offerings are steamed shrimp and snow pea leaves dumplings, Asian vegetable spring rolls and lamb dumplings with bamboo shoots, Chinese broccoli and cilantro. There’s also Peking duck, several noodle and rice dishes, and entrees ranging from sliced roasted pork with lotus root, Chinese celery and garlic sauce and orange crispy beef with kaffir lime leaf to kung pao chicken with sugar snap peas and wok-sauteed clams and mussels in black bean basil sauce.

No egg foo yung on this menu.
