Young and old gathered at West Palm Beach’s Cruzan Amphitheatre for Coastline Festival, Florida’s scaled down version of Bonnaroo and Coachella, creating an eccentric crowd whose energy could be felt as far as the eight-minute walk to the back of the parking lot.
Though sponsor Live Nation has a target audience age of 15-30, the range definitely spanned beyond that.
Teenagers flailed around to the indie/alternative bands that came on stage. Kids that weren’t old enough to roam the amphitheatre grounds on their own tagged alongside their friends as their parents stood close by. Couples that could have well been grandparents to some of the younger attendees swayed and smiled as the music played.
While Passion Pit headlined the music fest, it was Matt & Kim who stole the hearts of the concertgoers. The two-person band filled the large main stage with their electric presence, their one-hour time slot not quite long enough.
The two bands, along with Two Door Cinema Club, each played an hour for a crowd fed well by an array of food trucks that served massive lines between sets and whose of-age members were tantalized by a mixture of cigarettes and craft beer.

Fitz and the Tantrums, The Joy Formidable, The Neighbourhood, Capital Cities, The Mowgli’s, St. Lucia, Kids and West Palm’s very own Surfer Blood each had a half-hour set.
The midsize festival, which hits Tampa and West Palm Beach, is only in its inaugural year and can possibly develop into major music attraction in the southeast.
See you next year?
