Cottage Miami opens in Sunset Harbour

Inside a 1,000-square-foot refurbished garage in Sunset Harbour, you’ll find Cottage Miami. It’s a men’s boutique inspired by the combination of New York City style, European brands and the Miami way of life.

The store, which opened Aug. 26, sells a collection of washed trousers, travel bags, all-weather knits, wallets, men’s grooming and specialty books and well, basically everything a gentleman needs. (The checkout counter even doubles as a bar  that features craft beers from local breweries.)

Cottage Miami was started by Ariel Burman, a Boca native and Brooklyn Law School graduate. We got him on the phone to talk about how he became involved in fashion, his sense of style and what Cottage Miami brings to the area.

Boca Mag: What lured you into fashion?

Ariel Burman: Being in New York, seeing that side of life, and all the different styles, fashion and culture. I just took an immediate interest in it. Fashion was just something I started to feel passionate about, and when I finished school, I had an idea of possibly opening a store. I moved back to Florida to work with my family, and then I just realized that Miami needed a new men’s store. There was a gap in the market for the kind of brands I wanted to carry.

BM: What factors went into selecting the labels that you saw in your store?

AB: They’re labels I personally liked and loved. They’re labels that really exemplify my style and what I wear, and they weren’t represented down here.

BM: How would you describe your style?

AB: My style is very easy, casual. Chinos, oxfords, button-downs, board shorts – simple, but put together.

BM: What are your personal fashion staples?

AB: A great navy blazer, a white-and-blue oxford, slim-but-not-too-slim khaki chinos, a pair of board shorts that hit right above the knee and slip-ons. You can pretty much keep those few items and dress during the day and dress at night – it’s casual, preppy.

BM: How would you label the style that you’re bringing to Miami?

AB: Prepster gentleman. It’s luxurious, but it’s not like you’re trying too hard. You’re throwing things on, but it looks put together.
