A wealth of upscale burger joints has yet to satisfy our hunger for thick, juicy patties of ground beef stuffed into a bun, or at least that’s what local restaurant mogul David Manero is betting on with the coming debut of BurgerFi (4343 N. Ocean Dr., 954-489-0110) in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.
The proprietor of two Vic & Angelo’s, The Office and DeVito South Beach has teamed up with Big Apple attorney Lee Goldberg on the BurgerFi concept, intended to “revive the classic American hamburger stand” and to eventually expand to other areas in South Florida, as well as California, Texas and Connecticut.
BurgerFi, a play on Manero’s not quite tongue in cheek goal of the “burgerfication of the nation,” will feature fresh, all-natural Angus beef patties, also a veggie burger, that can be customized with an array of almost two-dozen toppings like sautaed mushrooms, hickory-smoked bacon, barbecue sauce and several cheeses.
Other menu items will include Chicago-style hot dogs, hand-cut fries sprinkled with sea salt, high-quality frozen custards (also customizable with various toppings) and house-made cupcakes. Washing them all down will be sodas sweetened with cane sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup, plus a roster of artisan beers and organic wines.
The design, by Manero’s wife, Lynn, is heavy on green and recycled components, from tables and counters made of reclaimed wood, to picnic tables of recycled plastic bottles, chairs fashioned from reclaimed metal, chandeliers of repurposed meathooks and serveware made from assorted recycled materials.
BurgerFi will be open daily from 11 to 1 a.m. Who knows, one may be coming to a neighborhood near you.
