Deck 84 on Deck for November Debut

Stepping up to the plate for a Nov. 20 debut is Deck 84, the latest endeavor of local restaurateur Burt Rapoport, who brings a laid-back Island look and vibe to the Atlantic Avenue space on the Intracoastal that was once home to Busch’s Seafood.

Complementing the tropical ambiance-vivid Caribbean colors, bamboo walls, travertine floors-is a moderately priced menu of casual, unpretentious fare that wanders all across the culinary globe. Chuck Gittleman, who runs the kitchen at one of Rapoport’s other eateries, Bogart’s, will head up the kitchen at Deck 84, bringing with him such Bogart’s favorites as chicken spring rolls, wasabi-crusted tuna and calamari with ouzo sauce.

Other features include a daily menu of fresh fish and shellfish, as well as wine and beer specials, Island-style live music on Saturdays and Sundays, and a fish-cleaning station on the restaurant’s 150 feet of dockage, where local anglers can break down their catch and then have Gittleman’s crew cook it up.

I’ll be on deck to check it out further in the days to come and will report back with all the details.
