Windows open: Check. Sweatshirt and socks: Check. Dazzling blue sky and twinkly ocean and wild parrots and plumbago in bloom: Check. Delray Beach version of spring fever that happens each November? Double check.
And this weekend is going to be nothing short of spectacular. We have that not-to-be-believed weather, for starters, and then we have another Friday Free concert at Old School Square with food trucks and a Billy Joel tribute band called Turnstiles that kicks off at 7:30 p.m. (DelrayCenterForTheArts.org) On Saturday morning, you have the Bargains & Books event at the Delray Public library (delraylibrary.org) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. that promises antiques, treasures, and books for sale (who doesn’t need another Nancy Drew original?) plus the Green Market across the street.
And if that isn’t enough (we are just getting warmed up) what about the Delray Chamber’s first annual Delray Beach Wine and Seafood Festival (dbwineandseafood.com) starting on east Atlantic just past the Intracoastal to Bronson Street one block west of A1A? Imagine fine wines and a gazillion seafood options from 50 Ocean’s lobster roll to Maine lobster and lump crab fritters from Caffe Luna Rosa to paella and ceviches from Ceviche (soon to open in the old Falcon House) to a Creole Platter from Blackjack Grill in Tallahassee and stone crabs from S&D Seafood in Chokoloskee? And those are only a few from close to 200 vendors of food and arts and crafts. You can also buy tickets for special wine pairings with local star chefs at area restaurants.
I can also throw in the Arts Garage (Negroni’s Trio plus violinist Federico Britos and saxophonist Ed Celle) but I have been raving about them so much lately I don’t even need to mention them.
The point is that when we have a weekend in Delray Beach this time of year, we are not fooling around.
