Dinners and Deals at Café Boulud

‘Tis the season for deals and specialty dinners before the snowbirds arrive in a few months, even at such swanky dining palaces as Café Boulud (301 Australian Ave., 561/655-6060).

Coming on Tuesday, Oct. 11, is a snacky-type tasting featuring two of my favorite vices: good scotch and fine cigars. Beginning at 6 p.m. the restaurant/bar at Palm Beach’s tres elegant Brazilian Court Hotel will feature a tasting of scotch whiskies from Scotland’s own Compass Box distiller. The $28 per person charge includes hors d’oeuvres and a complimentary stogie, perfect for sippin’, snackin’ and puffin’ on the restaurant’s pretty outdoor patio.

Two days later, on Oct. 13, the restaurant will host a food-wine pairing dinner featuring the boutique wines of Polkura winery in Chile. Proprietor Sven Bruchfeld will be on hand to discuss his wines, matched to a four-course meal from new top toque Jim Leiken and pastry chef Arnaud Chavigny.

And if you’re feeling a little flush this season, there’s the “Fall Back Flavors” celebration of the hotel’s 85th anniversary. From now until March 31, 2012, $923 a night will get you, well. . . a night’s stay, plus a decadent dinner reprising culinary favorites of the 1920s. On your plate that means lobster Newburg, galantine of pheasant and foie gras, chestnut-crusted roasted venison loin and peach Melba. Oh, and each course comes with a wine chosen by sommelier Mariya Kovacheva.
