BJÖRK: Live at the Royal Opera House

December 4, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

We opened our SCALE: Proportion Play exhibition with Björk, and now we’re closing it with Björk. The SCALE exhibition explores the dialogue between some the Jaffe Collection’s smallest and largest works and this concert film by Iceland’s most enigmatic musician is its soundtrack of sorts, for it features music from “Vespertine,” Björk’s 2001 recording of songs that began as small sounds.

This concert film was recorded live at London’s Royal Opera House in December, 2001. It features Björk, the first contemporary pop artist to perform at the venue, backed by an Inuit choir from Greenland, San Francisco electronica duo Matmos, Zeena Parkins on harp, and the 50-piece Il Novecento Orchestra conducted by Simon Lee. The concert was an unforgettable experience, exquisitely filmed, and we are so pleased to present it as we close our exhibition on proportion play.

This event is free and open to all in the intimate setting of the Book Arts Gallery at the Jaffe Center for Book Arts, third floor east of FAU’s Wimberly Library. In the spirit of good cultural stewardship, do welcome donations to the Jaffe Center for Book Arts Education Fund in the donation box at the gallery doors, but there is no pressure to contribute. Your presence is what’s most important to us. Please come. Big love and gratitude to Björk and to One Little Indian Records for their generosity in allowing JCBA to screen the film for you.
