Music at St. Paul’s presents Advent Lessons & Carols

December 2, 2018 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

On Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 3pm, Music at St. Paul’s will present a service of Advent Lessons & Carols. Featuring the Chancel Choir of St. Paul’s under the direction of Dr. Paul Cienniwa with guest organist Joanne Nelson, the choral repertoire will include seasonal anthems by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Johann Gottfried Walther, Henry Ley, Richard Shepherd, Gerald Near, and Harold Darke. The service will also feature congregational carols for Advent and organ voluntaries by Johann Sebastian Bach and Claude-Bénigne Balbastre.

“Advent is the season of the year in which Christians prepare for the coming of Christ at Christmas. While not a service of Christmas music, the music of Advent Lessons & Carols will easily put anyone into the spirit of the season,” says Director of Music Ministries Dr. Paul Cienniwa. ¨From readings foretelling the coming of Christ to Advent carols that look to the joy of Christmas, this is a great way to get into the spirit of the season without any of the commercial trappings so common in our secular culture.”

Advent Lessons & Carols is open to the public, and St. Paul’s is handicapped accessible. A freewill offering is encouraged to support the programming. For more information, visit
