Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts Announces Schedule for Summer Intensive Training Programs in Ballet and Theater
South Florida Science Center and Aquarium
Registration is now open for students to audition for two “intensives” at the Kravis Center next summer, including a new program for young dancers to train with instructors from prestigious ballet schools in France.
The Paris Ballet Conservatory Intensive auditions will be held on January 22, 2017 at the Kravis Center. Registration for the auditions is open, and students can register up until the day of the auditions. Students chosen for the ballet intensive will attend the one-week session July 3-8 at the Kravis Center. Students will train in the pure tradition of l’Ecole Francaise (the French School).
Founded by Jean-Hugues Feray, former principal dancer with many international companies, including Ballet Florida and National Ballet de Marseille, The Paris Ballet Conservatory Intensive will feature faculty including Charles Jude, former star of the Paris Opera Ballet and now artistic director of the Ballet de l’Opera National de Bordeaux; Christophe Maraval, dancer with National Ballet de Nancy, the Ballet du Capitole and the Cincinnati Ballet, among others; Olivier Pardina, former principal dancer with the Nice Opera House, Bejart Ballet and a principal teacher with the Miami City Ballet School and Stephanie Roublot, former dancer with Ballet de Nancy and now a principal dancer with the Ballet de l’Opera National de Bordeaux.
The Broadway Artists Intensive returns for its sixth year at the Kravis Center with two summer sessions. The Broadway Artists Intensive regular session, a three-week, advanced musical theater training program for ages 12-20, will be held weekdays July 10-29. Auditions will be held on two dates: March 11, 2017 and April 9, 2017. Students unable to attend the auditions in person may also submit a video audition. Registration to audition is now open.
The Broadway Artists Intensive Junior will be held June 26-30. Taught by the same professional Broadway faculty as the more demanding, by-audition-only program, the Junior program allows students ages 9-13 to study all areas of the performing arts, with daily classes in ballet, jazz, tap, vocal technique, acting and improvisation. No audition is required.
Created by Broadway professionals Jason Gillman, Jackie Bayne Gillman and Greg Graham, The Broadway Artists Intensive classes will be taught by an all-Broadway faculty, including special guest artists. Previous guest artists have included Tony Award-winning Director/Choreographer Jerry Mitchell, creator of Kinky Boots, the Best Musical of 2013, Broadway star Laura Osnes, nominated for a Tony Award for her starring role as Cinderella on Broadway, and TV star and Tony Award-winner Christian Borle of NBC's Smash.
“The Kravis Center has become synonymous with excellent coaching locally for our youngest actors,” said Tracy C. Butler, Director of Education for the Kravis Center. “We have a deep talent pool in Palm Beach County, and ‘intensives’ like these present a unique opportunity for local students to experience superior professional coaching. We are thrilled to be able to offer such high caliber performance-based intensives for the young performing artists in our community.”
