Making Sense of the World Around Us

Mondays from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

From its inception, photography has been celebrated as a fine art. Sofia’s talks will enable you to look at photos with a discerning eye, to decode the world of fine art photography, and review the basic vocabulary of this truth-telling medium. These will be entertaining and very visual presentations, including familiar and not- so-familiar works.

Sofia Vollmer Maduro, a Cambridge University scholar, is a curator, lecturer, and mentor to emerging artists. She is Trustee of the George Eastman Museum, in Rochester, NY. and a founding member of the Curatorial Committee
of the PhotoLondon Fair. Sofia is a nominator for contemporary art and photo prizes, and runs South/South Photo, a platform of exchange between artists and curators from Africa and Latin America. She provides advice to collectors and archives, and also contributes to publications on photography and art. Her recent book, Boulton Moderno, focuses on Modernism, and was presented at the Museum of Modern Art and ParisPhoto 2015.

Cost: $225 per four-class session
Reservations Required

Due to limited space, reservations are required for every program. Four Arts members must make reservations to programs, even if they are admitted at no charge.

Please note, no refunds for lectures are permitted. Exchanges or transfers for a lecture of equal value within a season are permitted on a case-by-case basis.
