Express Your Selfie at These Local Photo Hot Spots

When I was growing up, each year around the holidays, my mom would drag my sister and I to the Sears Portrait Studio in Town Center at Boca Raton for our annual family photo shoot. It was a tradition she started in the mid-1980’s that lasted pretty much up until our weddings. Now, a generation later, no one–including myself or my sister–could have predicted that our kids would be the ones dragging us to the local portrait studio. I’m not talking about Sears though… Let me introduce you to one of our area’s latest social media crazes: selfie studios!

What is a selfie studio?

It’s a permanent or pop up store or location featuring different themed backdrops with props, countless ring lights and a paid time slot for you and your friends to take “selfies” to your heart’s content. How do I know this? Well, my 8 year-old daughter and I recently spent a Saturday afternoon at one. It was quite the experience and I have the photos and videos to show for it! With Instagram being so prevalent in our lives, it’s no surprise something like this exists.

Our area has not only one, but two selfie studios vying for your phone storage and dollars. Let me tell you a little more about them…

The Studio, Delray Beach

Located on East Atlantic Avenue tucked in the same building that houses Delray’s Wine Room Kitchen & Bar is The Studio. A local mother/daughter business collaboration (which I love!), The Studio is an immersive, fun and bright space where you can take pictures and hang with friends and family.

I am not joking when I say that The Studio is so Instagrammable with its creative backdrops, interactive sets and graffiti walls that it will make your Instagram feed pop. They change out the scenes regularly, so you can go back time and time again to get the perfect shot!

My daughter was especially excited to learn that they host private parties and has requested that we do her birthday there and take advantage of their private outdoor balcony for the pizza and cake portion of the celebration. FYI- she doesn’t even have a cell phone yet.

1 hour time slots start at $20 for children; $28 for adults.

Selfie WRLD, Boca Raton

Billed as the #1 trending selfie “museum” in the country, Selfie WRLD is located in Town Center at Boca Raton near the food court. A large retail space divided into multiple stations, here you can immerse yourself in their fun, eye-catching artsy backgrounds and shoot weeks of content in only an hour.

Each area features an interactive installation and flattering lighting. They especially love their neon signs! You can also rent out Selfie WRLD for private parties and team building events, but general admission for a 1 hour time slot will set you back $29 per person. This is actually only one location of the franchise, with studios spreading out all over the United States.
