Home Community Fine Wine and Canines

Fine Wine and Canines

On Wednesday, April 18 dog owners and wine enthusiasts were united for the third annual Fine Wine and Canines at Royal Palm Place, benefiting People Reaching Out to Provide Education and Leadership (PROPEL).

More than 19 restaurants catered the dog-friendly event and attendees enjoyed an impressive selection of wine and cocktails, raffle giveaways and a costume competition…for the dogs.

Trish Plateroti, special events manager for Boca Raton’s Blue Martini, was pleased to be participating in the family-oriented outing.

“We always do events that give back to the community because it’s in our town; it’s great to be out and about in the city,” Plateroti said.

While many participants attended the event to support a worthwhile cause, others were simply out to enjoy themselves.

“I like wine and I like food and I like to be able to bring my dog,” attendee Ladonna Sierra said.

Pets were treated to dog biscuits (no tricks required), but many canines attempted to steal appetizing entrees from their owner’s plates.

However, it was the animals’ attire that stole the show and really brought the fundraiser to life. Dogs could be seen in a variety of colorful clothing—from prisoner stripes to handmade, French lace dresses.

Pet owners were able enter their pooches in contests, including Cutest Dog, Friendliest Dog, Best Costume, Mr. Congeniality,  Miss Congeniality and Longest Tail.

“We do a lot of ‘look-a-like’ and ‘best dressed’ contests and fashion shows,” said Lois Weiss, the proud owner of the costume-clad Daphney [See photo above]. “Fashion shows are her favorite activity. She’s rocking and rolling.”
