Peripatetic restaurateur Carmine Giardini and former Burt Rapoport chef John Belleme have just opened their new Asian seafood-robata grill eatery in the Harbor Financial Center in Palm Beach Gardens.
Umi Fishbar + Grill (2401 PGA Blvd., 561-472-7900) takes its name from the Japanese word for “ocean,” and with an extensive menu of seafood and sushi, plus everything from lamb chops to sweet potatoes fired on the area’s only robata grill, it takes its piscine (and carnivorous) responsibilities seriously.
The waterfront space was done by Hollywood designer Karen Hanlon, who also did Gary Rack’s two Boca Raton eateries, along with a dozen or so other local restaurants.
Chef de cuisine Frank Della Riva and sushi chef Mike Jin round out the culinary team, whose menu spans small plates like pork buns with Kurobuta pork belly, a variety of flatbreads and items from the raw bar and robata grill, and large plates that include a whole roasted Bell & Evans chicken and macadamia nut-crusted mahi. There’s also a list of daily specials, from Peking duck to crispy king prawns.
Umi is open daily from 4 to 11 p.m., with happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m.
