Bastille Day, basically the French version of our own Independence Day, is this Saturday, July 14. Since independence is a good thing, and celebrations are a good thing, why not put the two together and get your French on for a day?
Here are three local restaurants where you can do just that.
At Thierry Beaud’s tres chic Pistache (101 N. Clematis St., 561/833-5090), the West Palm eatery will recreate an 18thCentury Parisian bash, complete with musicians, jugglers, dancers and the like. There will also be a special brunch beginning at 11:30 a.m., followed by a 5 to 7 p.m. happy hour with entertainment, then at 5:30 p.m. a three-course $39 prix fixe dinner featuring choices like jumbo shrimp with Pernod sauce, duck a l’orange and crème caramel.
In Palm Beach Gardens’ Downtown at the Gardens mall, Paris in Town Le Bistro(11701 Lake Victoria Gardens Ave., 561/561-622-1616) is pulling out all the stops from 2 p.m. until midnight. Look for live music and other entertainment, face painters and raffles, not to mention a special $39.50 dinner, where three courses include lobster bisque, filet mignon with blue cheese sauce and chocolate fondant with crème anglaise.
And at cute, cozy little La Bonne Bouche (516 Lucerne Ave., 561/533-0840), chef Eric Regnier will be whipping up a special $29.95 menu, that will not only feature Palm Beach Post columnist Frank Cerabino on accordion but a hand-made replica of the Eiffel Tower. Bring in your own sketch of the French icon and you’ll get a free croissant. . . and if you don’t already know, Regnier makes the best croissants this side of Paris.
