Have a (less) hectic day with wine from Pauley Boy

Our upcoming December-January issue has an interview I did with radio stars from BIG 105.9-FM and 98.7 The Gater Paul and Young Ron, one of the most fun interviews in recent memory. I had never met young Ron before, but I have known Paul and his wife Gina for years and they are people you cannot help wanting to hang out with. And, I might add, now more than ever as PAUL HAS HIS OWN WINE. Now. In stores. Seems this all started when they were on their way home from Italy, met a wine distributor on the plane, and now there is a Castronovo Montepulciano d’Abruzzo on the shelves in Whole Foods, as well as several restaurants.

I was invited to a tasting of this wine at Paul’s house and I’m no cork dork, but I liked it very much. In fact, when I read the description it sounded a lot like Paul: “persistent nose,” “intensely fruity,” “gentle and spontaneous.” It didn’t say anything about being a goofy wine, but I suspect it can make you goofy, so that seems in keeping with the Castronovo name.

In a day when most successful guys opt for go-fast boats or Maseratis, I like that Paul Castronovo settled on a vineyard in Italy. That’s the kind of style I respect, and I plan on toasting him with my own bottle of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. He has earned it.
