IPIC Delray Beach: You Had Me at Lobster Roll

There’s a beautifully created mural in Delray’s new IPIC’s two-story lobby, swinging rope chairs next to the bar, the restrooms are worth a visit because they resemble a movie set.

Plus, ninja service at your pod—pillows and blankets provided—unlimited popcorn and tiny, bright bites on the menu ranging from filet mignon sliders to fried chicken to salads, pizza, Asian chicken salad wraps, truffle fries and a whole kitchen-full more.

Oh, and the film you’re there to watch.

It’s like watching a film in your comfy living room, except that you’re waited on, the screen is waaaay bigger (and with very good projection), the sound is top-notch, and the food and drinks (water, soft drinks, cocktails, beer, wine) are the top step in pampering.

We tried the lobster roll (poached knuckle and claw lobster, pink chili dressing, Old Bay potato chips $22), Chef Jet Tila’s spicy tuna on crispy rice ($17), filet sliders with caramelized onions, arugula and crumbled blue cheese, garlic toasted brioche buns ($24) and the chocolate s’mores cake (toasted meringue, graham cracker crumble $10). One of each was part of the special Boca magazine night celebration as we watched “Us”.

Yes, the film is scary.

The food was not scary. It was beautifully plated, and the lobster roll reigned supreme (pictured). Lots of lobster, very little filler, a top-split roll and small enough to fit in your hand. That’s important when eating in the dark. I’d have that again, as well as the filet sliders, which were tender and managed to each have a good amount of the onions, arugula and blue cheese.

The parking garage built for the IPIC is a wonderful thing in parking-limited Delray Beach. Cost is $1 for 3.5 hours with validation from IPIC, 25 SE Fourth Ave., Delray Beach.

Remember, the first IPIC in Palm Beach County is in Boca Raton at Mizner Park.

Opening Wednesday is the second location for Proper Ice Cream, at 75 SE Fourth Ave., Delray Beach, which is close to the new IPIC.

The popular ice cream shop known for its creative flavors acquired a loyal following within weeks of opening the first location at 1445 N. Congress Ave., Delray Beach.

Just the flavor names are enough to make you drool: pistachio with carmelized fig, freshest strawberry meringue, banana cream pound cake and dark chocolate and honey. I wouldn’t be surprised if the names put on some calories by themselves!
